Print and Digital Design // 2025
BBQ without Borders, an event that celebrates the contributions of immigrants in our culture.
Taking place in the gardens of the OMCA, this event brought together 4 immigrant chef teams, 600+ attendees, and a wide array of talented performers to celebrate immigration through BBQ, dance, music and conversation. We raised 30K for our east bay community.
This year with Sustainability as it’s overall theme, the logo and colors were softened compared to the last event and more florals and almost-70s inspired visual motifs were utilized.

Event Logo
As an event primarily associated with delicious barbecue made by immigrant chefs around the Bay Area, my initial intention was to highlight the barbecue dishes across different cultures. At the time of ideation and design, the different chefs had not yet been confirmed, so I went with more general barbecue dishes and ones that were featured before such as yakitori skewers, vietnamese grilled meats and bò lá lốt, and grilled seafood and vegetables. I loosely illustrated native wildflowers and the sillhouette of buildlings seen at the location of the event, Oakland Museum of California, and after the first design review added a framed motif of spices and aromatics that could also be utilized for social media templates to give it cohesion.Typography featured the font from the NINS logomark for recognition, with the colors altered for visiblity on a white background while keeping with the softer, nature-inspired theme of the event.

Event and Exhibit Design
Storytelling is a core goal of the event, so in addition to eating the food we also get their story and how their culture and immigration story relates to the food that they make. We partnered with Angel Island Immigration Station : Immigrant Voices to interview the chefs and foodmakers. With their stories, we made one-day pop-up exhibits for each restaurant/bakery out of freestanding shelving, panels, artifacts from the chefs, and hand-painted canvas signage on top.
I utilized graphic design, illustration, typography, and traditional sign-painting techniques to assist in the creation of these exhibits.
